After much anticipation, Starlink has officially launched the sales of its mini dish to a select group of loyal customers. However, the initial price of the Starlink mini dish has raised some eyebrows as it is higher than expected.
Kenneth K, a long-term Starlink user, shared details about the sales launch of the mini dish. He received an email from SpaceX regarding the launch of the Starlink Mini Dish Kit, which is priced at $599. This comes after Elon Musk hinted earlier this week that the new dish would be available in select areas in the coming months. It seems that the email invites might serve as a way to test the performance of the Starlink Mini Dish before a full-scale release.
Musk also mentioned that the Starlink Mini Dish would be half the price of the Standard Dish Kit and monthly subscription. However, the $599 price tag of the Mini Dish Kit in Kenneth K’s email is actually $100 more than the Standard Dish Kit, before any discounts are applied.
SpaceX explained in their email that their goal is to eventually reduce the price of Starlink for users around the world where connectivity is either unaffordable or unavailable. However, in areas with high usage where the Starlink Mini may strain the satellite network, a limited number of Mini Dish Kits are being offered for $599 to start.
With the Starlink Mini Dish Kit, customers also have the option to bundle SpaceX’s Mini Roam service with their existing Residential Service Plan for an additional $30 per month. The Residential Service Plan itself costs $120 per month for unlimited data, so customers who choose to bundle with the Mini Roam Service Plan would end up paying around $150 per month. The Mini Roam Service Plan offers 50GB of mobile data per month that can be used anywhere in the United States, with any additional data usage costing $1.00 per GB.
Deliveries of the Starlink Mini Dish Kit are expected to start next month and interested customers can only avail of the Mini Dish Kit and Mini Roam Service Plan through invite-only access.
