Elon Musk has disclosed new information about Tesla’s upcoming self-driving computer, which was originally expected to be called Hardware 5 (HW5). However, Musk announced that it will not be named HW5 and instead will be referred to as AI5. The launch date for AI5 in vehicles is set for the second half of 2025.
Following the successful implementation of HW4 in Tesla vehicles over the past year, the company is now focusing on introducing further enhancements to its Full Self-Driving suite with AI5. AI5 is expected to be the most advanced version of Tesla’s hardware yet, consuming four times more energy than HW3 and HW4. This upgrade will require a more robust effort than before.
The construction at Gigafactory Texas, which is expected to consume significant power, is set to utilize Tesla AI hardware alongside products from other manufacturers. Musk has indicated that AI5 will be introduced into the mix by the latter half of 2025.
The upcoming Robotaxi unveiling event in August may provide more information about how AI5 will be utilized. Musk has mentioned that AI5 has around ten times the capability of HW4, hinting at the potential for significant advancements in Tesla’s self-driving technology.
Further details regarding AI5 are anticipated to be revealed at the Robotaxi event in August, setting the stage for the next phase in Tesla’s autonomous driving initiatives.
